 山梨県にある富士桜カントリー倶楽部で開催された、国内男子ツアー「フジサンケイクラシック」の最終日。トータル5アンダーの4位タイからスタートした金庚泰(キム・キョンテ)(韓国)がトータル8アンダーまでスコアを伸ばし、逆転優勝を飾った。

 トータル3アンダーからスタートした池田勇太は前半で一時は首位に並ぶもあと一歩及ばずトータル7アンダーの2位、藤田寛之プラヤド・マークセン(タイ)がトータル6アンダーで3位タイとなっている。

フジサンケイクラシック 最終日◇2日◇富士桜カントリー倶楽部(7,437ヤード・パー71)>

 山梨県にある富士桜カントリー倶楽部で開催された、国内男子ツアー「フジサンケイクラシック」の最終日。首位とは5打差の7位タイでスタートした池田勇太は、最後まで熾烈な争いを繰り広げるも、優勝には届かなかった。

 2番から3連続バーディを奪った池田は、6番でも4メートルのスライスラインをねじ込みバーディ奪取。6ホールで4つスコアを伸ばし、早くも首位に並んで見せる。8番、9番の連続ボギーで一歩後退するも、12番、さらには14番でバーディを奪い再び首位へ。だが、16番パー3では風を読み間違い、ティショットを池に入れてしまう。

 このホールなんとかボギーで収めた池田だったが、首位を走っていた金庚泰(キム・キョンテ)(韓国)とは1打差で最終ホールへ。どうしてもバーディが欲しいところでティショットを左のバンカーに入れてしまうが、残り約180ヤードのセカンドショットを1.5メートルにつけ値千金のバーディ。ガッツポーズも飛び出し後続のキョンテを待った。

 しかし、池田に負けず劣らず、キョンテも右バンカーからの、セカンドショットを4メートルにつけ、優勝を決めるバーディフィニッシュ。猛追及ばず1打差の2位に終わった。

 キョンテのプレーを見届けた池田は「ようやったろ? 18番もナイスバーディだし、しゃーないだろう」とすっきりとした表情でコメント。「まぁ、ラッキーあったり、アンラッキーもあったり。でも、久しぶりに優勝争いできたし、これで勝てれば100点満点だけど、満点に近いゴルフができた」と最終日の躍進を振り返った。

 今季ここまで優勝はないが、今大会は初日の63位タイから着実に順位を上げ、優勝争いできる状態まで持ってきた池田。「これからどんどん大きい試合も始まる。輪厚(ANAオープン)ぐらいまでにまた優勝目指してモチベーション上げようかなと。久しぶりにいい終わり方ができました」。ビッグトーナメントが続く秋の陣を前に若大将が弾みをつけた。
